The new year is here and so is the time for entrance examinations! Every year, school goers of the science stream who dream to be in the field of engineering, prep for their board exams along with their JEE Main entrance examinations. What is the JEE Exam?

JEE is a short term that stands for Joint Entrance Examination. It is basically a competitive exam that is conducted in India for the purpose of admission to engineering and architecture courses in various institutes, like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs). The exam consists of two parts: the JEE Main and the JEE Advanced. JEE Main is the first stage of the exam and JEE Advanced is the second and the final stage, and these are conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in India.

What is the eligibility criteria for the JEE Exam?

To be eligible to appear for the JEE exam, a candidate has to fulfil the following criteria:

  • Age Limit: The candidate must be born on or after October 1, 1995. There is a relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories.
  • Educational Qualification: The candidate must have passed their 12th class board examination or its equivalent with at least 75% marks in aggregate in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories are required to have a minimum of 65% marks.
  • Number of Attempts: A candidate can attempt the JEE exam a maximum of three times in consecutive years.
  • Appearance in Qualifying Exam: The candidate must have appeared for the 12th class examination or its equivalent in either 2021, 2022 or 2023.

You need to note that this is the general eligibility criteria for the JEE exam in 2023. But the specific eligibility criteria may vary for different categories of candidates and for different institutes. When are the JEE Exams conducted?

The JEE Main exams are usually conducted twice a year, in the months of January and April. Whereas the JEE Advanced is typically conducted in the month of May. According to information from official sources, the session 1 of JEE Main 2023 will be conducted on January 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31, while the second phase will be held on April 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12.
