NEET is an all India medical entrance test that most of our medical school aspirants appear for, generally after finishing their class 12th board exams. The results of the NEET exam are crucial in deciding the colleges in which students can get an entrance to study. Just like JEE is for engineering, NEET is for medical. Now, let’s get to know a little more about the exam.

What is NEET?

NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a national level medical entrance examination in India, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in government as well as private medical colleges in India. The NEET Exam is held annually and the syllabus includes study of subjects such as physics, chemistry and biology.

What is the eligibility criteria for the NEET Exam?

The eligibility criteria for the NEET exams are as follows:

  • Age Limit: Candidates must have completed 17 years of age on or before December 31st of the year of admission. The upper age limit for NEET is 25 years for general category candidates, and 30 years for OBC/SC/ST/PH category candidates.
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as mandatory subjects.
  • Qualifying Marks: Candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology in their 10+2 or equivalent examination. For OBC/SC/ST/PH candidates, the minimum passing marks required is 40%.
  • Number of Attempts: There is no limit on the number of attempts for NEET.
  • Nationality: Candidates must be an Indian citizen or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) to appear for the NEET examination.

Candidates who have completed or are pursuing final year of their 10+2 or equivalent examination can also apply for NEET.

When is the NEET Exam conducted?

NEET is usually held once a year. The application process for the exam normally begins in the month of December or January. Then in the following year, the admit card is released a few weeks before the exam, which is typically conducted in the month of May. This year the NTA has announced the exam will be conducted on the 7th of May’ 2023. The results of the exam are announced in the month of June. The exact schedule for NEET is decided by the National Testing Agency and is generally found on their official website. It is recommended that you keep checking the website for the latest updates.
